Welcome to the Culture Corner

"What is this place?" My digital hub of all the things I feel like sharing!
Black hair care, autistic stimming, useful tools that make life more accessible,
cozy rooms and reading nooks, my fave paints--whatever!
I look at the different aspects of our lives like constellations.
Pardon my dust while I map out mine.

For now, everything is on one page. I might expand later as more things come to mind. Btw, none of my shoutouts are sponsored; I just really like the item(s)!

Let's talk about hair!
My curl pattern varies between 3B and 4A. And I've been trying to grow it longer, so it requires a lot of protection. Enter the SLAP! (Satin-lined cap)
I loOOooOoOve these things. I got a few in different colors. Easy on my hair and I can wear 'em anywhere, unlike regular bonnets. They just look like normal hats, but have extra protection on the inside. Machine washable. I just hang-dry mine, but they can go in the dryer.

JRL shampoo bars from jrliggett.com

Next up in hair care:
JR Ligget's shampoo bars! Great stuff. Also great for travel.
I love bar soap, so I'm happy I can have a bar for my hair. I like variety, so I like getting the sample packs. They last me a long time and I don't even need conidtioner with these.

Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil site

More hair care:
Sunny Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil. This oil! Lemme tell you. It's so good!
I use this to protect my ends whenever they're dry, and sometimes on the full strands during rebraiding. You only need just a few drops per plat. A little goes such a long way.. that my bottles end up expiring before I can finish them. (And they last almost 2yrs, depending on which blend you buy.)
My hair is always smellin good thanks to Sunny Isle!

Onto the body!
Hazel's Soapery. Black-owned small business.
This person makes excellent soap that lasts me a really long time.
There is almost always something good on sale too! Back to top.

Fidget tools!

Let's pivot to happy autistic things!
Behold my fidget trinkets!
I have a knock-off fidget cube and a silicone bubble popper, but my favorite thing is actually this pretty, shiny, blue rock a partner got me at RenFest. It's perfect!

Hearing protection headphones

More neurospicy goods:
Headphones. Hell yes.
Everything is too loud for me, so I need my cozy covers. And I tried those fancy noise cancelling headphones that you can recharge and whatnot. Not a fan. I prefer the kind that require no power/charge at all. Just a simple pair that manually block the sound worked way better for me. Over-the-ear is my preference.

Neurospicy goods on the move!
Over-the-ear is my preference, but I don't like bringing the big ones with me when I'm out and about. For travel, I use these!
My old job sent me on a conference where they were givin these out for free! (Loop is hella expensive.) I heard a lotta hype prior, so I didn't mind testing them now that I had a free set. Not bad! I hate the sensation of stuff in my ears, but these were bearable and they did successfully block noise. I dunno if they're worth what Loop is charging but they at least work. I love the materials used. Nice, smooth, soft texture. Back to top.

Paints from beampaints.com

Moving onto art stuff!
I haven't tried these yet, but I want to. One day.

Camp Pillows

Helpful stuff for sore and fatigued bodies:
I need knee pillows for when I'm sleeping or lying down. I've learned that lil camp pillows are great for that.
I have a couple for any time I travel now.

Arthritis Gloves

More helpful stuff:
Arthritis gloves on during sleep has been surprisingly useful for my hands!
I have a pair at home and another for travel.

Electric Lunchbox cooker

Cooking made easier!
More helpful stuff is when I use my electric steam cooker and my toaster oven. They're both perfect, affordable, and easy-to-clean items that let me cook right in my room.
Being able to monitor them while also lying down has been super useful for me.

Small toaster oven

Oster Blender link!s

More food help!
Oster Personal Blender. Love this lil machine.
Every summer, I dust this off and make the most delicious smoothies I've ever had. I just wish I could buy a backup bottle for it. It only includes one.

Health Protection!
So, I came across these masks at the beginning of the pandemic. Most important thing is to get a good seal and filter. Well, these have given me the best seal out of everything I've tried! They don't fit everyone's face, unfortunately, but if they fit yours then it's a wonderfully affordable and reusable option! Long lasting. Easy to clean. Filter replacements are only $1 each.
Silicone mask, rigid filter frame that keeps the mask off your nose and mouth, glasses don't fog up, comes in multiple colors, replaceable strings, and headstraps to get them off your ears. Plus, they go on sale often.

GATA Masks

More helpful stuff:
These are only cloth masks, but again, best ones I've had so far. Has an inner pocket to place a filter. Has bendable nose wire. Has extra fabric that snuggly covers under the chin. Also lots of good sales with beautiful colors and patterns!
I use these mainly for wearing while cleaning, spending a lot of time outdoors, poolside, for added privacy, and when I need to sleep in a mask (because they're easier to tape around the edges to ensure a good seal while zonked). Best part is I can use the GATA headstraps on these when my ears need a break! Back to top.
